Nanorods, like ZnO nanorods, gold nanorods and TiO2 nanorods, are subject to ongoing research as shown in figure 1 and 2. A lot of the reported synthesis procedures include precipitation, hydrothermal synthesis or hydrothermal method during the preparation. Amongst the most actively researched properties of nanorods are surface plasmon resonance, emission and refractive index sensitivity. Very often nanorods are characterized by either transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy or X-ray diffraction. High impact articles within this field report applications in catalysis, sensors (excluding biosensors) or optoelectronics.
