Nanoribbons, like graphene nanoribbons, bilayer graphene nanoribbons and black phosphorus nanoribbons, are subject to ongoing research as shown in figure 1 and 2. A lot of the reported synthesis procedures include etching, precipitation or e-beam lithography during the preparation. Amongst the most actively researched properties of nanoribbons are band gap, band structure plot and density of states. Very often nanoribbons are characterized by either transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy or atomic force microscopy. High impact articles within this field report applications in electronics, photonics or optoelectronics.
